Frack ‘Em

That’s the message from the UK government who are opening the doors for up to half of Britain to be fracked. I often hear these greedy MPs state it is so the UK can be independant of Russian gas. This is completely false, because the truth is, less than 1% of the gas imported into the UK comes from Russia.

If you are concerned about fracking in your area, Greenpeace have set up a texting service for you to check:

If you text ‘CHECK (followed by your postcode)

They will text you back & tell you if your area is at risk from fracking.

I texted and my area is at risk, so I’ll be writing to my MP to oppose it. If enough people who are against it write to their MPs and put pressure on their local authorities to ban it in their area, there’s a chance they might listen, especially if you make it clear they won’t be getting your vote if they allow fracking to go ahead.

Click here to get your MPs contact details.

Set up protest groups, let them know you won’t be ignored. Be in their face about it if you have to, it’s where you live, your home, and you are within your right to fight back and protect it. Not just for you, but your children and the wildlife, who don’t have a voice.

We really don’t want fracking, it is environmentally harmful & there is no benefit for anyone – except the gas companies, who will make billions at a heavy cost to the environment.

Our gas prices won’t come down, it has already been announced we can’t expect any savings on our bills.

Fracking takes a heavy toll on our water services, & there is a risk of our water supply becoming contaminated with the toxic cocktail of chemicals used in the fracking process. There is air & noise pollution from the increase in deisel lorries going back and forth from the wells. It can also cause seismic activity which will get worse the more fracking that takes place. In some parts of America there has been a tenfold increase in earthquakes in places where fracking occurs and geologists have warned that if these areas continue to be fracked the earthquakes could become much more severe & damage buildings and infrastructure.

Robert Gatliff, director of energy and marine geoscience at the British Geological Survey warned that Britain will need a thousand successful shale wells a year to meet demand. There’s just no way fracking will make Britain completely energy independant, a lot of what we’re told by politicians is rubbish.

We have to protect this land for future generations and for the wildlife that doesn’t have a voice; preserve our heritage from these dirty greedy gas and oil companies who will frack us and leave us with a toxic mess.

And now I’ll leave you with a message from David Cameron speaking his mind on fracking. (Disclaimer: This is a comedic video done by Greenpeace, not actually a real speech, but is pretty bang on.)

Here is a petition against fracking you can sign:
